WHY ACCOUNTING RESULTS ARE GARBAGE

FOCUS

this blog focuses on business controlling and management information. the intention is to make (non-financial) business managers curious about the opportunities in business controlling and point to what questions to ask when evaluating different options

'Beanie' serves as a promotional tool for my workshop https://funzzionale.com/

my philosophy is that business controlling should be:
  • highly customized and personalized
  • targeted at non-financial managers
  • bringing their own device
  • presenting automated calculations
  • running on flexible and disposable systems
  • not affecting the main accounting and operational systems
I think any system is only as good as it is being understood and used. the behavioral aspect is quite important - even more, it is vital. one of my assumptions is that in most businesses the data is already there. another one is that managers understand their business

the ultimate objective is to have no gaps between the information that is provided by standard accounting and operational systems and what managers need. in reality there can be gaps that must be bridged interactively for the time being. I am striving to develop custom tools to automate this manual work as much as possible - while leaving the main systems untouched. the benefits as compared to 'waiting until we get a new system' and 'doing it manually' are:
  • contained disruption
  • step by step approach
  • quick results
  • productivity gain
  • improved security
  • clarity
  • continuous improvement
custom solutions can be useful for non-financial managers who need results in a convenient way. they can also help financial managers when it would otherwise be a lot of (manual) work to get the required numbers. in some cases (tax, local statutory, legacy requirements) a custom solution is the only realistic option - and I know this from personal experience ✌
